Convert data in "Total SO2.xls" to text-format for input into R

1. Open "Total SO2.xls" in Microsoft Excel (or OpenOffice Calc)
2. Click "Total" at bottom left to switch to data sheet
3. Press ctrl-a to select all
4a. Excel: Press Shift-ctrl-~ to remove the comma (1000 separator) from all numbers
4b. Calc: Press ctrl-m to remove the comma (1000 separator) from all numbers
5a. Excel: Select from menu File/Save As/Save as type: CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv) and save
    as "Total SO2.csv"  press OK and Yes in response to pop-ups
5b. Calc: Select from menu File/Save As/Save as type: Text CSV (.csv) and save
    as "Total SO2.csv"  press 'Keep Current Format' and OK twice in response to pop-ups
6a. Excel: Exit, press No to "Do you want to save the changes ..."
6b. Calc: Exit
